VETERINARY REFERRAL PAGE

Acupuncture:

Every veterinarian wants to offer all the best treatment options available to their valued clients.  That is why it is essential to understand the benefits of acupuncture for our veterinary patients.

The evidence based training at CSU, explains that acupuncture is not about strange obscure energy pathways, but rather that it works much like getting a sticker in your finger.  First the local receptors in the tissue send a signal to the CNS that there is foreign material disrupting the muscle.  The brain responds by causing vasodilatation, releasing WBC’s, other healing factors, and of course endorphins. This cascade leads to muscle relaxation, pain relief and increased rate of healing.

In addition to the more typical cases you might think of, such as the arthritic older dog,   acupuncture has been used successfully to treat feline asthma, fecal incontinence, allergic skin conditions, seizures, ocular drainage disorders, IVDD, respiratory arrest, lick granulomas, renal disease, mega colon, post operative pain, and lameness disorders, to name just a few.  Nearly any body system can benefit from acupuncture stimulation, which is why it is often used, and succeeds, when all other treatment options have failed.  Acupuncture is not, nor should it be used as a substitute for sound medical practice, but as an adjuvant to the tools already at our disposal.

The accepted protocol for the majority of disorders is once weekly treatments for three weeks, with follow-up appointments every 2-4 weeks as dictated by the disease process.  However, more often than not an excellent response can be achieved with just one treatment!  The cost averages $55-$91, with initial evaluations often being slightly more.

As a well respected family health care provider, you owe it to your patients to give them every viable treatment option.
