Anesthesia Free
Dentals
Were
you aware that pets with dental disease swallow particles of
bacteria each time they chew, which in turn can lead to heart
and kidney disease?
There has been
much publicity lately about non professionals such as groomers
and human dental hygienist performing teeth cleaning procedures
on dogs and cats without anesthesia. The concern is that these
people are often not properly trained, nor have the capability
to prescribe medications as might be needed to truly treat
dental disease.
East West Vet dental cleanings are performed
by a licensed veterinarian so you can be assured the
procedure is SAFE, THOROUGH, and PAIN-FREE. Dentals are done
in the
comfort of your home without general anesthesia. However, in
some cases we will give the patient a light sedative in order to
ensure good access to all the teeth in the mouth, to decrease
their anxiety and ensuring a more complete cleaning. We can
also prescribe antibiotics if needed. This procedure is not for
every pet, such as those with severe dental disease or that
might need multiple extractions. But for most animals with a
mild amount of tartar, this is an excellent choice to improve
the pet’s health and breath, without the risks and complications
of general anesthesia. It’s great for cats and older dogs. At
your pets next wellness exam ask if anesthesia free dental
cleaning is an option for your pet.

Bereavement:
When it’s time to say good bye
It is never
easy to lose a good friend. Pets hold a special place in our
hearts, often being considered family members for the
unconditional love and companionship they selflessly provide.
Animals share our lives in such intricate ways, and when they
are gone it leaves a void in our daily routine. Sometimes it
can be difficult to get the support of friends and family
without pets who may not fully understand the deep emotional
bond we have with our animals and how profound the loss can be.
Fortunately we
not only understand how much your animal means to you, but also
we can be there right in your home to gently help with your pets
passing when the time is right. Although it is never easy,
there is some comfort in knowing that your pet does not have to
face one last car trip and spend his or her final moments in the
sterile, stressful environment of a hospital. They can be at
home, in familiar surroundings, embraced by the whole family, in
intimacy and privacy. We know how hard it is to face this
decision, and will be there to support you in not only making
the decision, but also when the time comes.
We encourage
anyone who has recently lost a pet and is struggling with their
grief to seek help, there are several places to turn in your
