ABOUT US

East West Veterinary Service is an exclusively house call veterinary practice.  We provide complete health care for all animals, including dogs, cats, horses and koi fish. From preventive care to diagnosing and treating illness, we can address nearly any medical condition all in the comfort of your pet’s home environment!  Not only is this service convenient for you, no more stressful trips in the car, but it’s more relaxing for your pet.  By being able to come to the home, it’s much easier for the doctor to evaluate your pet’s diet, supplements, interactions with other family members, and many other factors which can influence your pet’s health and behavior but which may not be obvious or easy to explain in the vet’s office.  Also, the doctor has more time to give you and your pet individual attention, which will lead to a better understanding of your pet’s unique health care needs.  House calls are especially ideal for multi pet households and geriatrics.  You and your pet will look forward to at home vet visits, which can lead to better quality and longer life for your beloved four legged friend!

Team:

Meet Dr. Q.

Dr. Questen is a graduate of Colorado State University, one of the top three veterinary schools in the United States, a certified animal acupuncturist, animal behaviorist, and the only state certified fish health inspector in the state of Colorado.

She has successfully owned and operated her own veterinary practice East West Vet since 2003.  It started in the Bailey/Conifer area, but with the addition of Home Healing Veterinary House calls in 2007, the practice now provides service for Littleton and south Denver as well. Several   partnerships with local veterinary practices ensure access to full service facilities for clients when needed. Her affiliation with several specialty hospitals in the Denver area has afforded her the opportunity to practice the highest quality emergency medicine and surgery.  With Dr. Questen you can be assured you trust your pet to a highly qualified, dynamic and well respected professional when you place your pet’s health in her hands.

On the road to achieving her childhood dream of making the world better for animals, she gained experience working with horses on several racetracks across the US, breeding farms, and show stables.  She also worked in small animals veterinary hospitals for 9 years, as well as training several rescued dogs in obedience. One of her proudest achievements was being invited to work for a month at the Dubai Equine Hospital in the Middle East.  Only two veterinary students from each country are chosen for this honor each year!  This exclusive medical and surgical facility operates primarily for the horses owned by Sheik Mohammed of Dubai, who owns more Thoroughbred racing horses than anyone else in the world.

Dr. Questen has been pursing acupuncture since 1998, and achieved her certification from CSU in May 2003.  The following year she was invited to return to assist in teaching the course.

In addition, she completed an intensive internship and working relationship with Dr. Robert Silver in Boulder. Dr. Silver is a world renowned holistic veterinary practitioner who contributes to research, writes articles, and lectures to other veterinarians about alternative health care for animals around the world. This was an invaluable gateway to expanding her knowledge of holistic and alternative therapies.  Since then she has been treating patients with acupuncture, herbs and homeopathic remedies, and achieving incredible results.  She is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Holistic Veterinary Association.

Upon meeting her waterfall building husband in 2005, she developed a special interest in pond fish medicine, and has traveled extensively across the United States to acquire additional education in fish health management.  She is a Wisconsin State Certified Fish Health Inspector, active in the Colorado Koi industry, and has even worked with the state prison systems and the Division of Wildlife regarding fish health.  She has been retained as a legal expert in related cases, and is amply qualified to diagnose and treat koi fish, yes including surgery!

Her latest contribution to the well being of animals is providing animal psychology services.   Her unique training system is called “Animaste” and incorporates the proven scientific principles of operant conditioning with Zen yoga principles. She has helped dog and horse owners alike to use a balance of focused intention, and positive reinforcement, while minimizing the use of punishment, to achieve incredible harmony with their animal companions.  She is currently in production of the first high definition animal care and behavior modification video based on the principles of Animaste.

When not caring for your pets, Dr. Questen spends her time with her husband Scott, daughter Alexzee, her three horses Oliver, Rhoen and Jian, as well as the family’s two teacup poodles Teddy and Minnie, Monkey the rottweiler, Mao Tze the cat, Tiko and Nikki the parrots, and of course all the fish!

Dr. Questen has brought her medical expertise and compassionate care to hundreds of animals, including horses, dogs, cats, llamas, yaks, birds, reptiles and fish.  Her goal is to care for the ‘whole’ animal, taking into consideration the medical, physical, and psychological needs of her patients.  When placing your companion into Dr. Questen’s highly qualified care, you can be assured of receiving the highest quality compassionate care, with an emphasis on balanced traditional and holistic therapies.

Appointments: What to expect at a home visit:

When you call for an appointment, you will be given a half hour window for the doctor’s arrival.  The cost of your visit will vary slightly with the distance traveled.  For questions regarding pricing, please request a full estimate w hen you call to schedule. For new clients please download and complete a new client form from this website or the doctor will have one for you to complete during the appointment. Please have your animal contained for the appointment.  This may mean temporarily confining cats to small rooms where they can be easily located, have a leash available for dogs, and have horses and other large animals stalled with halters at the ready for the exam.  The doctor will appreciate your assistance in restraining your animal for the physical exam, as well as having your pets favorite treats available to use to make friends.  This will help to   develop a trusting relationship with the doctor which will last for years to come.  Please let us know in advance if you are unable or unwilling to assist in the restraint of your animal, and if you think your pet will be especially difficult to examine.  Do not hesitate at any time during your appointment to let the veterinarian know if you are uncomfortable with assisting in any treatments which may be necessary, or if you’re concerned for your safety. We will make arrangements for the best qualified team member to assist in whatever is necessary.  Our highest priority is to keep you and your animal as safe and healthy as possible.  At the conclusion of your visit, the doctor will happily accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, or Care Credit. Also please have any pet insurance forms available for completion at this time. With home visits, you and your pet will look forward to visiting with the friendly doctor who is happy to see you both!

Payment:

With new advances in veterinary medicine, the cost of care for your pet can parallel the costs of human health care.  Although this leads to longer and increased quality of life for our animals, it can also be a financial strain.  For this reason we accept Care Credit as a form of payment, along with cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard.  For more information about Care Credit and to fill out an application, check out their website carecredit.com.  We also highly recommend pet insurance.  There are many companies such as VPI and the ASPCA which offer affordable plans which can be truly life saving in the unfortunate event of medical emergencies.  We know you want the best care for your animal, a small investment now can make decision making easier in a time of crisis.

Emergencies:

Although having a veterinarian come to your home is convenient, it also means that sometimes the doctor and staff are out in the field out of cell phone range for several hours at a time and may not always be able to immediately respond to your calls.  Therefore we ask that you always leave a message when calling, and specifically leave times when it’s best to return the call.  If emergencies keep us out beyond 8 pm we will generally return calls the next day.  If you have a true emergency with your pet, such as bleeding or difficulty breathing, and leave a message but do not get a return call within a few minutes, please seek medical attention immediately at the nearest veterinary hospital to your home. If we do not return your nonurgent call within 24 hours, please do not hesitate to call again, as it is possible we did not get the message.  Remember, we are here to help and want nothing more than to be able to answer your questions and address all your concerns in a timely manner!

BE PREPARED! Have the number and location of the nearest emergency facility, as well as arrangements for transporting the animal, in place BEFORE the unlikely event you may need it!
